I was in the Saturn wagon and mom turns the keys in the car and we start off for the end of the Wal-Mart parking lot. a lady next to the cement with a card board sign catches our eyes. the woman, in her late twenties early thirties has a little boy of three or four next to her. but it is the sign written on the back of a diaper box me and my mom both look at.
it is short, and to the point.
"Single Mom. Need money. God bless."
By the time mom pulls from the parking lot my heart is aching.
"I just hate to see that, it just breaks my heart." my mom says. I stay silent for a moment, my mind flashing what if that were me. I would be really desperate.
"If it breaks your heart, why don't we got back?" I said in a quiet voice. my mom breaks.
"Alright, I will." she does a U turn and we go back to the parking lot. mom digs in her purse and pulls out a twenty, I do the same and pull out a ten. I hand it to mom and she rolls the Saturn next to the lady. Mom rolls the window down and the lady looks at us unbelieving.
"Here. this is for you." Mom says, giving her the bills. the lady's face is pure joy, both her and my mom are crying.
"Thank you so much!" the lady cried.
"When I saw you I said it breaks my heart and my daughter told me to turn around."
"Thank you so so much!" the lady cries, then tucks it in her purse and starts to tow the little boy away with her.
"See you in heaven!" my mom calls.
"See you!" the lady calls back."
